Press release: NUMEM and IC’ALPS collaborate to develop an ultra-low power SoC for sensor and AI applications

Sunnyvale, USA – Meylan, FRANCE – May 29, 2024 – Numem memory high performance based on its patented technologies NuRAM (MRAM) and SmartMem, and IC’ALPS – leader in ASIC/SoC design and supply chain management, have pooled their expertise to meet the challenge to develop an ambitious integrated circuit with RISC-V processors, 2MB of NuRAM and a custom DSP/AI datapath accelerator. The custom SoC was developed in an advanced technology node.

This SoC was designed and implemented to showcase the high-performance, low-power Numem memory subsystem with a RISC V processor and AI accelerator for applications with very low consumption. It was developed through close collaboration between Numem and IC’ALPS.

The physical implementation of this integrated circuit was carried out in a secure space (location, isolated network and servers, encrypted exchanges, etc.) to meet the strict protection of sensitive data required by this program.

“We were very satisfied with the collaboration and the quality of the service provided by IC’ALPS which made this release possible on time and a functional silicon for the first time”said Jack Guedj, CEO of Numem. “NuRAM with SmartMem is a high-performance memory subsystem that is 2 to 3 times smaller and offers significant power reduction compared to at SRAM”, he added.

Lucille Engels, COO of IC’ALPS indicated: “The challenges were numerous, including: architecture, areas of power, protection of sensitive data, execution times pushing for improved EDA flow and out-of-band delay pressure”.
