A look back at the 2nd Power Electronics Day in Hauts-de-France | JEP 2025

Power Electronics Day (JEP 2025): an electrifying day in review!

Exceptional keynotes, fascinating speakers with great expertise, exhibitors available to present and explain their latest innovations and a quality audience who responded to the invitation, this Thursday March 27, 2025 at ENSAM in Lille for the 2nd edition of the Power Electronics Day in Hauts-de-France, co-organized by ACSIEL and the MEDEE cluster around the generic theme “Designing converters in line with the challenges of the energy transition“.

The day addressed several key themes, including electric mobility and recharging, requiring an integrated approach to optimizing recharging systems. Ecodesign was identified as a major innovation lever, enabling the development of more sustainable and efficient solutions.

By way of introduction, Catherine Davy, Director of the ENSAM Lille campus, and Betty Semail, Director of L2EP, warmly welcomed us to the heart of the La Centrale building, an atypical venue on the Arts et Métiers campus in Lille.

Pierre Vermeersch, research engineer at EDF, honored us with his opening keynote address. He emphasized that power electronics is a strategic technology, at the heart of the challenges of energy transition and electrification.

Electrical engineering remains, and will remain, a key field where the need for technicians, engineers and researchers is more crucial than ever to electrify and decarbonize the energy sector.

Eric Moreau from STMicroelectronics, Nadir Idir from L2EP and Pierre Rault from  RTE Hauts-de-France all took part in the 1st conference-debate, moderated by François Gruson, on the theme of “Converters from Watt to Gigawatt: an overview of industrial and research activities in power electronics“.

In a 2nd conference-debate, moderated by Nicolas Patin, Victor Bidou from Bpifrance, Norbert Messi from Valeo, Arnaud Videt from L2EP and The Dung Nguyen from onsemi discussed “Massive EV recharging and the grid: stationary and on-board converters at a glance“.

They all stressed the strategic importance of power electronics for the energy transition.

The afternoon was divided into 2 workshops: the first on “The diversity of training and career paths in power electronics“, co-hosted by François Gruson and Nicolas Patin. Bogdan Vulturescu from SNCF, Isabel Garcia-Burrel from Enedis, The Dung Nguyen from onsemi and Vincent Mallard from Mov’Ntec highlighted the importance of diversity in career paths and training to meet the varied needs of the power electronics sector.

The theme of the second workshop was “Eco-design: towards new opportunities for the development of future converters“, moderated by Michel Ramez from Eprom, with the participation of several experts, including Laurent Dupont from SATIE, Erwan Autret from ADEME, Violaine Ohl-Gasteau from PEP ecopassport and Didier Babout from Convertgence. It emerged that eco-design is no longer an option, but a necessity and an opportunity for the sustainable development of power electronic converters.

The event was punctuated by time for exchanges and networking in a convivial space, where the public could wander from stand to stand and discover the latest innovations from the 11 companies that had placed their trust in us for this edition: Altrics, Contribute for Wallonia (UMONS), Elemca, FTMesures, Pasman, Protavic International, Rohde & Schwarz, Tektronix, Teledyne Lecroy, Typhoon Hil, Würth Elektronik.

Schneider Electric‘s Géraud Cambournac closed the day’s proceedings by stressing the importance of industrial consortia and laboratories.

In summary, Power Electronics Day 2025 highlighted collaboration, innovation and sustainability as key pillars for the future of power electronics.
