News | Year of Engineering 2025-2026
The Year of Engineering (Sept. 25 – June 26), led by the CNRS, the Académie des technologies, the French Ministry of Education, Higher Education and Research and their public and private partners, aims to raise awareness of engineering sciences and their contribution to a sustainable future and a more resilient, competitive economy (scientific mediation).
The aim of the Year of Engineering 2025-2026 is to bring together schools, research, companies and the general public to promote the scientific and technological knowledge and professions that are shaping the future.
The Year of Engineering 2025-2026 is a scientific mediation operation, aimed primarily at teachers and students at middle and high school level, which will run throughout the 2025-2026 school year. It aims to bring together research organizations and laboratories, technology companies and educational structures, with a view to promoting engineering sciences and technologies for a sustainable future and a resilient economy. It highlights the diversity of careers and training opportunities in these fields, and aims to transform perceptions of engineering sciences and technologies by making them more attractive to young people. It also includes an ethical reflection on the impact of technologies.
Towards sustainable and responsible engineering
Sustainable and responsible engineering involves developing processes and technologies that enable resources to be used while preserving the environment and natural reserves for future generations, encouraging the development of energy-efficient systems, and proposing efficient solutions for their recycling.
Ethical issues must also be taken into consideration.
Background and challenges
Engineering and its sciences target 2 major challenges:
- Adapting to and mitigating climate change, as well as preserving resources and biodiversity, within a framework of energy and ecological transition,
- Strengthening France’s strategic autonomy and the resilience of its economy.
To this end, the Year of Engineering will bring together a wide range of players, including research organizations, schools, technology companies and scientific culture centers. From September 2025 to June 2026, scientific outreach activities will include school visits, internships and events.
Objectives
- Create links between research and teaching to train future generations
- Demonstrate the diversity of engineering professions and encourage young people to take up these careers, particularly middle and high school students and those from areas far removed from scientific centers
- To help teachers update their knowledge of the engineering sciences
- Promote encounters between the general public and those involved in research and technological development
