The French electronics industry will be at Global Industrie

Paris, March 4, 2025 –

The French electronics industry is one of the country’s key economic pillars, with a turnover of €15 billion, of which €4 billion is generated by exports, €5 billion by electronic assembly, €3 billion by connectors, passive components and PCBs, and €3 billion by embedded software, distribution and equipment. This industry mobilises 8,000 researchers in public research bodies, generates 170,000 indirect jobs and 80,000 direct jobs.

The French electronics industry is at the heart of the environmental transition and digital transformation. It plays a key role in innovation in healthcare, electromobility, aeronautics, space, cybersecurity and, of course, defence. The electronics sector provides industries with automation solutions and helps to make everyday objects more connected and intelligent. Electronics is also contributing to the environmental transition by optimising the consumption of natural resources and developing green energy transport and storage systems.

The industry is also at the heart of contemporary geopolitical issues. It has been identified by a large number of countries (USA, China, Japan, India, etc.), and by the European Union, as a strategic sector, and is the subject of support plans aimed at industrialisation (American Chips and Science Act, European Semiconductor Regulation, Indian Product Linked Incentive, etc.) because of its highly innovative nature and its position far upstream in the value chain.

The global electronics market is currently experiencing a slowdown. According to Gartner, after peaking at $570 billion, global semiconductor sales fell back in 2023, before picking up again as a result of demand for computing power for artificial intelligence. By 2024, global sales should reach around $625 billion. Even so, the industrial and automotive markets, which are Europe’s strength, remain at a low ebb. A more global recovery is expected from 2026 onwards. The sector’s driving forces need to be mobilised with this in mind, so that the industry can develop by taking advantage of the new expansion, and so that it has the production capacity it needs to avoid another shortage crisis.

The trade associations that make up part of the Comité Stratégique de la Filière Electronique, ACSIEL, SNESE and SPDEI, will be present at Global Industrie (Hall 6, stand D87) and will be delighted to welcome you to their stand for discussions.
