Vision of the French electronics market
Paris, May 17, 2017 – On the occasion of its general meeting, ACSIEL – Alliance Electronique organized a press conference to present its vision of the French electronics market and its Barometer at the end of March 2017.
By way of introduction, Gérard Matheron, Chairman of ACSIEL Alliance Electronique, recalls the Alliance’s objectives:
– Continue to bring together and make ACSIEL the forum for exchange and sharing with all players in the French electronics ecosystem
– Broaden the membership base
– Be the natural and recognized interlocutor for public authorities
– Become the standard-bearer for the profession, and the point of reference for other professional organizations in the sector.
– Develop targeted information on markets and technologies of interest to our ecosystem (public authorities, press, members, partners)
– Build the roadmap for electronics in France, in cooperation with public authorities, clusters and the entire French electronics industry.
Analysis of the French electronics market
ACSIEL presents its vision of the French market for Semiconductors, Connectors, Passives and Test & Measurement.
A reading of the segmentation of these markets reveals contrasts from one market to the next.
While, generally speaking, the Automotive, Industrial and Mil-Aero markets appear to be the three historically dominant segments, it is worth noting the specific demand from smart card manufacturers for semiconductors, and from the Education and Telecom segments for Test & Measurement.
In a more detailed analysis of these markets, the Alliance gives its vision of the growth vectors and challenges specific to each of them:
– In the automotive sector, while the growth vectors are clearly identified (connected vehicles, electric vehicles, etc.), the stakes are high for the French electronics industry, in terms of its ability to remain competitive in R&D and production in France.
– For the Aerospace and Defense sector, estimated to be growing, the competitiveness of production and our ability to maintain cutting-edge electronics skills, a guarantee of strategic independence in defense matters, will be the major future challenges for our industry.
– In the smart card and digital security sector, we can see numerous vectors for growth through projects linked to digital trust and identity, as well as cybersecurity, all of which are promising for our industry, which will nevertheless have to adapt to societal issues and the reluctance of end-users.
– The Industrial sector, driven by the Industry of the Future and the need for greater security in transport, will have to integrate robust electronics, the major challenge being to resume investment in production.
– The telecoms market, now mainly driven by R&D projects on 5G and the rollout of fiber optic networks (FTTH), faces numerous challenges such as data traffic management, the rollout of fiber and the ever-increasing data flows to be conveyed.
ACSIEL barometer (12-month rolling average)
For the 2nd edition of this barometer, the trend to the end of March remains in line with that observed at the end of 2016, namely :
– the index is up for Test & Measurement, as well as for Printed Circuit Board production in France, reflecting the good health of the Aero-Mil market, which has strong demand for these two categories,
– the index is still rising for production equipment and associated consumables, a sign of a resumption of productive investment to make up for the delays accumulated over the last few years, and also a consequence of government measures (sur-amortissement),
– for Semiconductors, the beginning of a positive curve inflection, reflecting sequential growth over the past two quarters, which should continue.
In conclusion, the Chairman of the Alliance recalls the wealth of skills and the strong complementarity of all the players within the French electronics ecosystem, enabling the implementation of a complete value chain, accessible to principals throughout the country: research, education, development, industrialization, production of components, systems and equipment.
In short, “made in France” from idea to volume product.
We look forward to seeing you in the second half of the year.
Reminder – ACSIEL and WE Network mobilize the French electronics industry for the World Electronics Forum 2017
ACSIEL – Alliance Électronique and WE Network have launched the French electronics industry’s action plan for the Industry of the Future. It sets out the stages in the national industrial mobilization process, which is being structured ahead of the World Electronics Forum 2017 (WEF) in Angers next October, in the presence of the CEOs of the global electronics industry. Workshops, thematic roadshows and a common roadmap will be organized to build the Smart world of tomorrow.
