Why should we not fear electronic nanotechnologies?

We often talk about the risk of nanotechnologies for health. These possible risks are linked to exposure of the human body or animals to nano-materials used in certain food, cosmetic, medical or clothing products which can be ingested or likely to release nanoparticles into the environment.

Nanoelectronics is not subject to such risks since it is only a matter of fine engraving of the elementary transistor. The finished product, the electronic chip, is not at the nanoscale and therefore does not interfere at these dimensions with the organism or its environment.
