Microled: Aledia raises €120 million and appoints a new CEO to move into volume production

The Grenoble-based company, a pioneer in microLed display technologies, is raising €120 million from its historic shareholders and is recruiting a new manager, Pierre Laboisse, formerly at ams Osram, to accelerate the industrialization of its products. strong>

It’s a nice double whammy that Aledia, a Grenoble-based company resulting from a spin-off from CEA-Leti in 2012 and a pioneer in microLed display technologies for new generation screens, has just achieved.

The company has just completed a new funding round worth 120 million euros from its historic shareholders (CEA Investissement, Supernova Invest, Braemar Energy Ventures and Bpifrance) and the State via the French Tech system. Sovereignty of France 2030, and to secure the services of a new renowned president and CEO in the person of Pierre Laboisse (photo below), former executive vice-president of ams Osram who also worked at Asteelflash, NXP or even Infineon. Pierre Laboisse succeeds Giorgio Anania, founder of Aledia, who remains on the company’s board of directors.

Thus prepared, Aledia aims to accelerate the industrialization of its products by starting their volume production and marketing.

Aledia, in a few words:

Based in Grenoble, Aledia designs a new generation of LEDs, microLeds, made from 200 mm silicon substrates and allowing the production of low-consumption screens with excellent image quality. After seven years within the CEA, Aledia led a 20 million euro project in 2019 for the construction of a 4,000 m² building in Échirolles, in the southern suburbs of Grenoble. Then, in 2020, the company chose the town of Champagnier (located around ten kilometers south of Grenoble) to set up its future large-scale 3D microLed manufacturing plant thanks to an investment of €50 million. The first stone of the site was laid at the end of 2021.
