Electronics barometer #ACSIEL – 3rd quarter 2022

Electronics barometer #ACSIEL – 3rd quarter 2022

Paris, December 12, 2022 – The Acsiel electronics barometer has been aggregating quarterly sales in the electronics sector since 2017 in France.

Two indices make up this barometer:

  • one indicates sales linked to electronic components (semiconductors, passives, printed circuits, connectors) and consumables (solder pastes, flux, accessories) intended for industry
  • the other refers to sales related to electronic test and measurement equipment, electronic card production equipment.

The College Equipment & Services and Test & #Acsiel Measurements has just finalized the barometer for the 3th quarter of 2022.

Analysis

  • Sales of electronic components and consumables in France in the third quarter of 2022 remained at a level well above that before Covid.
  • Particularly strong demand in the automotive, industrial and aeronautics/space/defense sectors benefits all electronic components (semiconductors, passives, printed circuits and connectors).
  • Sales of passive components and printed circuits are largely stimulated by the needs in power electronics, particularly in the automotive and industrial sectors. Conversely, we note a drop in demand in home automation and the general public.
  • The deadlines remain very long and we cannot yet speak of relaxation. The increase in costs has so far only been very partially passed on to customers. Manufacturers anticipate a stabilization of the market over the first 6 to 9 months of 2023.
  • The industrial relocation efforts encouraged by public authorities and the high number of productive investments recently announced open up favorable prospects for the entire French electronic components market in the years to come.

Analysis

  • For test and measurement equipment and production machines, the situation remained favorable in the third quarter, driven by the automobile, energy, industrial, semiconductor, and finally aerospace and defense.
  • In testing and measurement, growth in the third quarter is the opposite of usual seasonality. It is partly due to strategic investments in the automotive, semiconductor and aerospace industries, structuring and promising investments for our ecosystem. Other investments are more linked to the deployment of new telecommunications technologies (5G) or in charging stations for electric vehicles.
  • As for electronic card production equipment and related services, the results reflect a favorable situation since the end of last year but investment will slow down in the short term and energy costs will weigh significantly increased in the market.
  • Supply difficulties going hand in hand with a relative lack of reliability of delivery times as well as the labor shortage of qualified technicians constitute obstacles to growth in the short and medium term for these two sectors.
  • However, electronics are more than ever at the heart of the changing needs of society, and France is currently doing rather better than Germany (economic slowdown) or Asia (decline in PCs, data centers, smartphones and game consoles).
